Track record

Action taken against them

1 fine in 2013, £7.19m in total. This is part of the official register record and is worth reviewing before going ahead.

  • Fined £7.19m on 3 September 2013
On 2 September 2013, the FCA imposed on Aberdeen Fund Management Limited and Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited (together Aberdeen) a financial penalty of £7,192,500 (discounted from £10,275,000 for early settlement) in respect of breaches of Principle 10 and Principle 3 of the FSA's Principles for Businesses and breaches of certain client money rules in force during that time. In the period between 31 August 2008 and 31 August 2011 Aberdeen failed to identify that money placed on behalf of clients in Money Market Deposits was governed by the client money rules. As a consequence, Aberdeen failed to protect client money adequately by not obtaining trust letters and failed to take reasonable care to organise and control its affairs responsibly in relation to the identification and protection of client money. The average daily balance affected by this failure was £685 million. A copy of the Final Notice is displayed on the FCA's website.
