On 2 May 2012, the FSA imposed a financial penalty of £3.5m on Martin Currie Investment Management Limited and Martin Currie Inc (together 'Martin Currie') for failing to comply with Principle 2 (Skill, care and diligence), Principle 3 (Management and control) and Principle 8 (Conflicts of interest) of the FSA's Principles for Businesses and breaches of rules contained in the part of the FSA's Handbook relating to Senior Management Arrangements, Systems and Controls Sourcebook and the Conduct of Business Sourcebook between January 2007 and November 2010 in relation to its discretionary investment management of unlisted investments made on behalf of two clients.
