Limits on what they may do

  • Requirement regarding self-employed customers
For a period of six months from the effective date [the effective date in the VREQ will be the same day of authorisation] of this requirement, the firm must: 1. Conduct a manual assessment of affordability for all self-employed customers and use the results of this assessment to determine whether the credit is affordable. 2. Compare the outcomes of the manual affordability assessment with those generated by the firm’s automated affordability assessment process. 3. At the end of the six-month period, provide the FCA with a report summarising: a. The methodology and findings of the manual assessment. b. The comparative analysis between manual and automated outcomes. c. Any proposed changes to the automated process based on these findings. 4. Until the FCA has reviewed the findings and confirmed its position, the firm must continue to conduct a manual assessment of affordability for any lending decisions (and not use any automated process for lending decisions) for self-employed customers. 5. Following the FCA review, the firm may request that this requirement be lifted or amended, subject to FCA approval.
