Track record

Action taken against them

1 fine in 2012, £3.35m in total. This is part of the official register record and is worth reviewing before going ahead.

  • Fined £3.35m on 8 May 2012
On 8 May 2012, the FSA imposed on Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company (Europe) Ltd (MSIEu) a financial penalty of £3,345,000 (discounted from £4,780,000 for early settlement) in respect of breaches of Principle 3 of the FSA's Principles for Businesses. The breaches of Principle 3 occurred between 1 October 2009 and 31 March 2011 (the Relevant Period). During the Relevant Period serious failings occurred in MSIEu's corporate governance and control arrangements which resulted in it being poorly organised and managed across its business as a whole following a decision to expand and diversify into a new business area, by writing business for European clients through three branches across Europe. The failings occurred despite the FSA clearly indicating that the change in business strategy would require careful and focussed oversight from the Board
